If your silicone product touches food, your certification choice isn't optional — it's a legal requirement. The US and EU run completely different food-contact regulatory systems: a product that passes FDA can fail LFGB, and a supplier that can't produce the right paperwork will get your shipment held at customs. CYES manufactures food-grade silicone with full FDA and LFGB documentation — here's exactly what that means for your project.
FDA vs LFGB: What's the Difference?
| FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 | LFGB (Germany) | |
|---|---|---|
| Market | USA | EU (Germany is stricter than EU 1935/2004) |
| Migration test | Water, 3% acetic acid | Water, 3% acetic acid, olive oil, isooctane |
| Sensory test | Not required | Required (taste, odor, color migration) |
LFGB's additional oil-based migration media and mandatory sensory testing make it a stricter standard than FDA — which is why a material that passes FDA does not automatically pass LFGB. If you sell in Germany, Scandinavia or the Netherlands, LFGB is effectively mandatory, and Amazon EU will request the certificate.
What Documentation We Provide on Every Order
- Material certificates — raw batch number, supplier and lot
- Third-party test reports — SGS, Intertek or TÜV accepted
- Declaration of Compliance (DoC) signed by our QA manager
- Batch traceability record — from raw material to shipping carton
- Post-cure verification — 200°C × 4h, documented
No hidden fees, and no "we'll get it for you after you order." You see the certificates before you commit. For the underlying comparison between the two standards, see our FDA vs LFGB explained guide.
Products That Commonly Require These Certifications
- Baby feeding & teething — FDA + LFGB + EN 14350
- Kitchenware — spatulas, baking mats, food storage
- Drinkware — tumbler lids, straws, bottle sleeves
- Ice trays and freezer containers
- Pet bowls and feeding mats
Common Pitfalls Buyers Miss
- "Medical-grade" is not food-grade. They are separate certifications — don't let a supplier conflate them. See our food-grade vs medical-grade comparison.
- Old certificates expire. Ask for the issue date; certificates are renewed regularly and should be current for your order.
- Oil migration. Even FDA-certified silicone can bleed oil if post-curing is skipped. Ask for the post-cure log, not just the certificate.
